What does "sharing" a board really mean?

The moment you "share" a board the board gets uploaded to the Bitsboard catalog.  Sharing boards accomplishes three things.

1. It allows you to share boards with other Bitsboard users.

All the other user has to know is the name of your board so that when they search for it in the Bitsboard catalog they can download it with one click.  Teachers love sharing boards with their students for example.  All they have to do is create a beautiful board one time and as soon as they share it their students can download it from the catalog.

2. It makes it easy to sync boards across devices

Mom's love creating custom boards to help their kids excel in school.  However, often the kids are using a different iPad.  By sharing a board, the mom can create content on one iPad and easily download the same board via the Bitsboard catalog on the other device.

3. Sharing creates an online backup

When you share a board, we instantly create a copy of it online. This means that if you ever lose your device or experience problems with the app, you don't have to worry about the custom boards you have created because you can always download them again from the Bitsboard catalog in just one click.

TIP: If you have already published a board on the Catalog you can always update it by first making changes to the board on your device and then clicking on "Share" again.  This way you can update the board name and add, edit, or delete any card you like.

Getting Started

How to get the most out of Bitsboard?

Bitsboard is a fantastic learning tool to absorb new facts and information in a fun new way.  The best place to get started with Bitsboard is to browse to the Bitsboard catalog to find something you want to learn.

Bitsboard Catalog

The Bitsboard catalog contains "Boards" that each contain a collection of flashcards (i.e. bits).  Every board on the catalog has been created and shared by a passionate teacher or student to help others grow and learn.

You can browse through featured topics to quickly find some of the most popular boards or you can search for specific boards using the search box.

Teachers love Bitsboard because it allows them to quickly create and share boards with all of their students.  As soon as they have created a new board all you have to do is click on the "share" button and voila... your board is now available for anyone to access and download from the Bitsboard catalog.  Just think of how much easier and more fun it is to suddenly share new vocabulary, lessons, flashcards, etc. with your students.  All they need to know is the name of your board in the Bitsboard catalog and then they can instantly download it with just one click.

Download your first board

Once you find a board on the Bitsboard catalog that interests you, you can download it in just one click.

Download-Board.png

At first it will seem like nothing is working but please rest assured that the board is downloading in the background.  As soon as the board has finished downloading, it will appear on your home page as a new board.

IMPORTANT: For now, please only download 2-3 boards at one time.  Our system is still new and if you get too excited and try to download too many boards at once, it may not work.  We will fix this in a future update but for right now we are focused on adding some more urgent items such as more games, user tracking, etc.

Play and Learn

We believe that the best way to learn is through playing!  After all, everyone loves to play.  So if it feels like a game, users will stay happy and engaged much longer and they won't even realize that they are learning.

To make learning fun and addictive, we are incorporating dozens of mini-games into Bitsboard.  Here is a list of games that are already available on Bitsboard.

Every game in Bitsboard can be launched with just one click.  Just select the board you would like to work on and then select the mini-game from the game launcher.

Flashcards

The flashcards mode is a great way to introduce new content that is unfamiliar to the student.  The default flashcard mode shows both the word and the picture.

However, everything is fully customizable from the settings page.  Just click on Settings and then click on the game to adjust everything to your liking.

Ready for the next mini-game?  You can easily swap between games by just clicking on the joystick icon which will open the game launcher so that you can select a new game to play.

Photo Touch

Photo Touch is a very popular find the item game.  The user hears the audio for one of the bits such as "snake" and they now have to find and tap on the correct image.

Photo-Touch.png

After two correct answers, the game automatically gets a little more difficult by showing more photos.  After two wrong answers, the game automatically gets easier by showing fewer photos.  This way the difficulty is automatically adjusted to each user.

Like all games in Bitsboard, Photo Touch can be customized from the settings page.

Photo-Touch-Settings.png

Specifically, you can specify the min. and max. number of items that should be displayed on the screen at any time.

Word Builder

Word Builder is really two games in one.  For boards that contain flashcard with single words only such as "playing" the Word Builder game is a spelling game where each word gets broken into individual letters and the user has to spell the word in the correct order.

Word-Builder-Speller.png

For boards that contain phrases or sentences such as "I am a musician" the sentence gets broken into individual words and the user has to re-create the phrase in the correct order.

Word-Builder-Sentence-Maker.png

The World Builder game can be played either by just tapping on the correct tile or by dragging the tile into the answer box.

From the settings, you can further specify whether items should be completed from left to right or from right to left.

Word-Builder-Settings.png

You can also turn the tile magnet ON and OFF.  Turning the tile magnet OFF means that the correct tiles will not snap into place automatically.  Instead, the user has to drag them into the answer box and then release the tile.

Match Up

The Match Up game is a fun little game where users have to match up the images with the correct words.  It's a fantastic way for little kids to learn how to read and for older students to learn new information in a fun new way.

True or False (coming soon)

True or False is a fun mini game where users have to guess whether what they are shown is true or false.  It makes rogue learning fun, simple, and addictive.  You can also turn the audio off from the settings to turn True or False into a great game to help kids learn how to read.

Track your progress (coming soon)

In version 5 of Bitsboard, you can now easily and automatically keep track of your progress across each board and game to find out exactly how you are doing.

Bitsboard - Progress Scorecard

A RED indicator means that the user answered the question wrong.  A yellow indicator means that the user struggled a little before finding the right answer.  We only show a yellow indicator if there are at least four answer choices present.  A green indicator shows that the user answered the question correctly.

At the end of each session, Bitsboard will automatically show a scorecard of the most recent result.  To view all of the results, just click on the "All Time" button.

Bitsboard - Progress Tracking All Time

How do you turn tracking off?  Easy, if you don't want to see any results, just change the "session length" of each game to "continuous" and Bitsboard will never display a scorecard and will never interrupt your game.

NEW: Accelerate Your Learning

In version 5 of Bitsboard we integrated an adaptive learning algorithm that automatically helps users zero in on trouble words.  This way, instead of displaying items randomly, Bitsboard automatically helps you master bits that the user is struggling with.  Bitsboard also automatically favors new / fresh content over items the user is already competent in.  The net result is that the game will be more FUN because users will learn faster and see more new items.

    Problem downloading boards

If you are having problems downloading boards, then it is most likely due to the fact that you tried to download too many boards at once.
